Living on the edge of the ocean is just so elemental. It's like being on the edge of the Galaxy. It's so vast and eternal, The flashes of light in the night on the edge of the world were for warning Mariners off the rocks but as a child and even as an adult, the meaning of the light was a lifeline on some kind of ultimate interior level of being. I don't think there is anything more healing and aligning than being in the beam of a lighthouse at night. I hope that feeling of being aligned in the light at night by the lighthouse light came through in this work.
Melissa Abbott is an artist and yoga teacher from Gloucester, MA. She studied painting at Monserrat College of Art.
